Oscar awardee musician A.R.Rahman and Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan have been selected for the 'Padma Bhushan' award on the occasion of 60th Republic Day.
Cricketer Virendra Sehwag and Badminton star Saina Nehwal have been chosen for the 'Padma Shri' awards along with yesteryear Bollywood diva Rekha and actor Saif Ali Khan.
Nobel laureate Dr Venkataraman Ramakrishnan and veteran theatre and film actor Zohra Sehgal have been chosen for the Padma Vibhushan award, the second highest civilian award in India.
44-year-old Aamir Khan, who made his directorial debut with the critically-acclaimed Taare Zameen Par in 2007, recently came out with 3 Idiots that has become the highest-earning movie in Bollywood.
Apart from this, music maestro Ilayaraaja has also been selected for the prestigious Padma Bhushan awards. Oscar winner sound recordist of Slumdog Millionaire Resul Pookutty has also been awarded with a Padma Shri.
Eminent journalist Fareed Zakaria and prominent hotelier Sant Singh Chatwal have also been selected for Padma Bhushan.
The Padma awards, India's highest civilian national honours after the Bharat Ratna are conferred every year on the occasion of Republic Day in recognition of distinguished service in the various fields of art, science, literature, sports and industry.
